Model này gây ấn tượng khi sở hữu độ phân giải 4.096 x 2.160 pixel gấp 4 lần độ phân giải Full HD thông thường. Sản phẩm hỗ trợ trình chiếu cả nội dung 2D lẫn 3D với kính màn trập.

Một điểm đáng chú ý là VPL-VW1000ES sẽ có độ sáng cao 2.000 Lumens, điều này đảm bảo cho các hình ảnh 3D trên kính màn trập luôn hiển thị được sáng, rõ ràng. Sức mạnh của máy còn nằm ở bộ zoom 2.1x cơ động, cho phép trình chiếu hình ảnh lên tới 100 inch ở khoảng cách chưa đến 3 mét.

Tuy nhiên, vấn đề nguồn phát vẫn là một cản trở đối với sản phẩm của Sony khi nhiều loại đầu Blu-ray, đầu HD... hiện tại vẫn còn giới hạn ở độ phân giải Full HD. Trong tương lai Sony sẽ cho phép máy game của hãng trình chiễu nội dung 4K và tương thích với máy chiếu. Còn hiện tại người dùng có thể sử dụng tính năng upscale hình ảnh lên 4K có sẵn trên VPL-VW1000ES. Chất lượng của những hình ảnh này sẽ không chuẩn như 4K gốc.

Suitable for up to 200-inch screens, the Sony VPL-VW1000ES is the first in its new line of SXRD home theater projectors. Part of Sony’s premium ES (Elevated Standard) line, which includes AV receivers and Blu-ray players, the VW1000ES offers the same viewing experience found in the more than 9,000 commercial theaters that use 4K technology. Utilizing Sony’s new SXRD 4K panel, the projector has a resolution of 4096-by-2160 pixels, far surpassing the resolution of HDTV.

The high-end home theater projector offers brightness up to 2,000 ANSI lumens—more than twice the brightness of a high-end HDTV—and the improved black levels of Sony's Iris3 technology as well as a reported 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio.

Designed for home installation, the VW1000ES is compatible with leading home automation systems, and is equipped with dual triggers, 2.1 and motorized zoom, an RS232 interface, and expanded throw distances optimized for screens up to 200-inches.

Sony reports that a new "sizeable" library of materials in the 4K format is available, but that the new home theater projector also features upscaling technology that converts Standard Definition, High Definition, and 3D movies for playback on the device. The projector also boasts an integrated IR transmitter that works with active shutter 3D glasses.

The Sony VPL-VW1000ES is expected to become available in December through Sony's network of A/V specialists and customer installers. Though pricing has not been announced, Sony expects the projector to sell for less than $25,000.
